In the heart of the Bay of Islands, Base Bay of Islands is the FUNKIEST hostel in Paihia and the only one with a bar! From the sundeck to the courtyard full of giant palm trees, our friendly atmosphere buzzes with a laid back beach style and tropical vibes! Base Bay of Islands provides friendly, funky, clean and cosy accommodation just metres from the beach and only two minutes walk to Paihia's wharf, ferries, shopping and cafes.

Our bar has nightly BBQs, activities, fun and games, including weekly Quiz nights, dress ups and drink specials. It is a place to meet and get to know other travellers and locals. The reception and travel crew are a mixture of locals and travellers that came to stay and have never left! They love the Bay of Islands and can help you make the most of your stay by telling you the best places to go. The sunny bar deck is a fun and cool place to chill out after a day on the water and enjoy a cool pint of beer. If you would rather chill out with a movie, check out the selection of DVDs , pop some popcorn and ENJOY!

Cleanliness

At Base Bay of Islands we pride ourselves on our cleanliness. Every room is serviced and cleaned everyday, as are the ensuite bathrooms. The communal kitchen is cleaned three times a day to provide guests with a clean environment to cook and enjoy their meals. Our friendly clean team has worked with us for many years and are always happy to assist any of our guests.

Base Bay of Islands is only a five minute walk from the town centre with supermarket, banks and post office and is only 50 metres from the beach and some of Paihia’s great cafes. If you do not feel like cooking and doing the dishes afterwards, Base Bay of Islands offers the famous nightly Big Kiwi BBQ for $12. Marinated steak, BBQ sausage, creamy potato bake, summer salad, breads and sauces, topped off with a FREE beer or wine. We have an on-site travel desk to help plan your stay and activities while in the Bay of Islands and your travels around New Zealand.
